Sink Overflows Causing Water Damage

Sink overflows are very common in Fort Jackson homes. In these events, many the homeowners will only acknowledge the surface level damages and will race around the area to cleanup the water that has leaked onto the floor and surrounding areas. However, the homeowners will miss the severe damages that are occurring beneath the surface. Damages may include mold growth, structural damage, and permanent cosmetic damages. Many homeowners will not know that these damages have occurred on their Fort Jackson property until it’s too late. If you have recently experienced water damage due to an overflowing sink, call First Response and we will send a team of water damage professionals to your Fort Jackson home within the hour.

What To Do When A Sink Overflows

Whether your sink overflow is the result of a child forgetting to turn off the sink after brushing his or her teeth from the night before, or the kitchen sink if overflowing due to a clog, the water damages that will occur to your Fort Jackson home will be the same. To reduce the amount of damages caused by sink overflows, try these 3 steps:

In a lot of overflowing sink cases, the cause is a clogged garbage disposal. To remediate these issues, turn on disposal (make sure there is enough water in the sink to ensure the disposal runs correctly), if the water begins to drain the clog in the sink was in the disposal line.

If the garbage disposal trick did not work, try fizzing the clog by using baking soda and vinegar. To do this, pour 1 cup of baking soda into the dain followed by 1 cup of vinegar. Make sure the baking soda is poured into the drain first, and NEVER mix the ingredients prior to pouring into the drain. After the fizz begins to disappear and dissolve, pour a full pot of boiling water down the drain.

If the other home remedies have not fixed the clog, and the water damages are beginning to worsen, try using a plunger. To plunge the drain, make sure there is enough water in the sink to create a seal, then place the bell of the plunger over the drain and begin to plunge. If dealing with a double sink, make sure to seal off the unclogged side to reduce the risk of other water damages in your Fort Jackson home.

First class service! My only regret was not calling them 4 or 5 hours earlier. Brian, Chris, and team were quick to assess the situation and work with me on a custom remediation plan. They explained everything, including pros and cons of the various options, clearly and completely. I hope I never need this type of service again. But, if I do, I know who to call.

First Response did a superior job of remediating water damage to my home. They were the second company that I called but the only one that I will call in the future. They take their jobs seriously and completely understand the meaning and value of delivering outstanding service. Not only did they correct the problems created by the first remediation company, but they went above and beyond to ensure that their work was done properly and expertly. Robert and Josh and the entire team earn my highest recommendations for service and expertise.

May 31, 2012 my husband and I were notified that we were being forced to move out of our home, at no fault of our own. Needless to say, this news caused a lot of stress for us! My employer, Robert Pulliam - President of First Response, understood the emotions I was going through and offered the company's services to assist in the process of moving. He also allowed me the time off needed to prepare for the move. My husband and I worked diligently over the next month to have everything packed up and ready to be moved out. On the afternoon of June 29th, Robert and a couple of our co-workers came to our home and moved everything out. It was such a tremendous blessing to have the extra man-power!! First Response has extraordinary leadership and support staff, and I am certainly proud to be part of such an amazing group of people!
